The SHARE Vice-President Dr. Tanja Perko will present the abstract “contribution of social sciences research to a successful NORM management: main pitfalls and recommendations” at the International Conference on the Management of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM) in Industry to be organised by the IAEA and to held virtually from 19-30 October 2020.

The presentation will provide examples of crucial social science research contributions in different NORM exposure situations, identify some of the main pitfalls and conclude with recommendations for an effective, holistic approach in NORM management. It will also describe initial actions to stimulate the integration of social sciences and humanities in research, practice and policy related to NORM management. One action is the establishment of the SHARE platform and the development of a Strategic Research Agenda for Social Science and Humanities in radiation protection.
